The Chicago White Sox have selected the contracts of shortstop Colson Montgomery and right-handed pitcher Juan Carela, both of whom are highly rated in the organization, to their 40-man roster.

The White Sox have added two players to the 40-man roster for the purpose of not exposing them to the Rule-5 draft.

The Padres used a Juan Soto trade as a way to acquire young pitching. The White Sox see Garrett Crochet in a similar light, with the goal to add multiple young hitters.

Former Orioles coach Ryan Fuller was officially named White Sox director of hitting Thursday. Fuller, 34, was the Orioles co-hitting coach since 2022. Sox GM Chris Getz said at the general managers last week that Fuller would be taking the position, a supervising role not unlike Brian Bannister’s as director of pitching.
